Production Methods:
As the client is a charity I want the costs to produce the campaign materials to be as low as possible, therefore I have evaluated the most appropriate production methods.
DIGITAL PRINTING
PROS
- Fast
- Less expensive if have quantity less than 1000
- Greater flexibility, allows for frequent changes to printed material if needed.
- The printer proof is your final piece - real mock ups.
CONS
- Cracking in the folds, ink isn't fully absorbed into the paper which means that cracks can appear in the colour along the edges when the piece is folded.
- More expensive in higher quantity print runs, more than 2500
Digital printing is appropriate for individual Stand Up To Racism groups to do as the quantity of material printed wouldn't exceed 2500. The quick nature also would be beneficial for demonstrations / protests, so that they can be ready immediately. If the client wants a larger quantity, traditional offset printing would be more appropriate to reduce costs.
SADDLE STICH
Is a method where the folded pages are stacked over each other in sequence and then stapled along the folded edge. The other three edges are trimmed to finish the book.
PROS
- Most economic binding method
- Lays flat when open
CONS
- Books are less durable
Due to this being the most economic method it will be the most appropriate especially as there are only a small number of pages.
