OUGD405 Studio Brief 02 - Design Process - Information Design - Initial Ideas and Feedback

Initial Ideas:
I sketched out my initial ideas for the leaflet designs.

1. The first leaflet design is a silhouette shaped flyer, consisting of just a front and a back page. I wanted the shape of the leaflet to be the point of impact to make people want to read further. A question mark would indicate the 'unknown' and the title would be in bright, bold writing to stand out. The back of the leaflet at the top of the head would have an interesting infographics. Just below this would be a few bullet points on some striking hard hitting facts. Down at the bottom I would write general rules of what to do regarding stranger safety split into three columns. I do like this design as it's simple and striking but I think it is aimed at more mature audience probably teenagers.

2. The second leaflet design is a gatefold with a gap in the middle to allow for 'lurking' eyes. Around the eyes would be small illustration symbols to help show what to do in certain situations concerning a stranger. The top flap would have facts and statistics and the bottom flap facts and contact numbers. The front cover again has a strong visual focus but the inside information again would probably be aimed at teenagers although could be aimed at parents.

3. The final leaflet design is a square 'z' fold with doodle illustrations throughout that a young child could connect with as it is done in their 'language'. It would be strong image focus on instructions on what to do. This would be appropriate for a younger audience as the message is more concise and easily understandable.

Feedback:
After presenting my ideas to a small group the leaflet design idea they liked the most and thought could be made really effectively was number 3. They liked the doodle, hand drawn elements and the strong visual focus it would have for young children. After a discussion the best direction for the leaflet was to do 'The Do's and Don't of Stranger Safety' as the easy directions would be clear enough for a young child to understand. I was also told to consider a tear off section for parents containing facts and a guide on how to check their child has understood the information. I need to consider how it could form the rest of a campaign and how the children will receive the leaflet.
