OUGD405 Studio Brief 02 - Group Experimentation

Today we did a small group task which will help inform studio brief 2. In a group of 3 we had to design a mock up leaflet for 'What to do in a flood', with the information provided. We needed to create a hierarchy of the most important information so that the key points/facts are effectively communicated. We began by brainstorming ideas and looking at infographics to help aid us with the design. Then we decided on how the most important information would be laid out.

This is the initial idea that we had for the leaflet.

This is the mock-up that we created.
The front being a square envelope shape with the recipients address on the front.

This is the back the leaflet is sealed with a flood warning sticker, the colour of the triangle corresponds to the seriousness of the threat, e.g. bright red = severe flood warning.

This is the inside content;
The left is a map of affected flood areas.
The middle a checklist of things you need to do when a flood occurs.
The right is information such as the twitter feed and radio stations to listen to for updates.
The bottom is emergency telephone numbers.

Overall we believe that our mock-up design was effective in communicating the key points to aid someone during a flood. Things that we could work on is the tone of voice remaining serious but not fear mongering. This will has helped me better understand how to appropriately target the audience and working on the tone of voice to best communicate the message.
