Taking my images into photoshop I first made adjustments to the shadows/highlights, this allowed the handwriting to stand out on the page more, making the black ink a lot darker. I then continued to adjust the levels so that the images all had a similar white coloured background. Finally if there were faint marks of other handwriting coming through on an image I used the clone stamp tool to cover them up.
These edits in photoshop have improved the overall quality of the images making them clearer and more vivid.
