OUGD505 Studio Brief 02 - Final Publication Design

Final Publication Design:

Layout:
For the final layout design I split each page into two columns, this way I could take full advantage of the space, as well as producing a more ordered design where it improves the legibility.

Typography:
I made the headings bold and large scale (Avenir Black, 57pt), so that it would capture attention and make a strong introduction for the instruction. It is more likely to be followed because it grabs immediate attention, the headings are also short which will aid in them being remembered.

For the sub-headings I used bold type at a larger scale to the content so that it stood out on the page (Avenir Black, 29pt). This will help the reader if they need quick advice without the extra explanation, and it will also be remembered more easily.

The content typography (Avenir Medium, 12pt) is legible and the rounded letterforms help to produce a friendly and approachable design. This will encourage the reader to digest the information and follow the information.

Logo:
Within the design as part of the brief I need to include the clients logo, this proved to be quite difficult as there weren't any good quality images of the logo, all of them were blurry which ruined the quality of the design. To solve the problem I had to take the logo into illustrator and use image trace to produce a design which would work at different scales. I decided to keep it as a black and white logo as this would work cohesively with the rest of the design.

Justification:
This publication addresses the problem within the brief by providing a short guide on how to intervene with a racial attack. It promotes and encourages action to be taken against hateful racial behaviour, rather then doing nothing, this gives a knock on effect which helps to give support to those affected by the abuse. Providing the information in a clear and concise manner that can easily be understood by a range of audiences. Bold sub-headings make the information more digestible and memorable, while the clear layout makes it easy to follow. The minimal design emphasises the clarity of the information, the symbols are easily understood, and the large scale and colour contrasts make a more engaging design with character. The tone of voice is friendly and approachable as opposed to the stiff nature instructions can have. This overall makes the publication accessible to a wide audience.
