OUGD406 Studio Brief 03 - Collaborative Practice - Ideas and mood boards

Within my group Dylan created these three mood boards to highlight and emphasise some of the ideas for our exhibition. The first mood board relates to a UV theme which compromises of neon lighting and a UV pen feedback wall. The idea was to highlight security features that banknotes have. Everyone in the group liked the idea as it would make our exhibition stand out, but we were unsure whether we would be able to apply this to the large room.

The second board represents a geometric theme focusing on shape, going for a more minimalist approach. I personally wasn't keen on this idea but I could see how we could apply certain aspects into a different theme.

The last mood board represents the era of the 1930's business. We agreed this might not be appropriate theme on it's own but elements from it could be utilised, such as different picture frames to display all of the work.

When doing this project an image immediately sprung to mind, Andy Warhol's Dollar Sign.

I then found out that the pop art movement was prominent in the 60's. This has a relation to the building which was also built in the 60's. I thought that it would be an interesting contrast to combine the brutalist architecture of the building with the bright, bold colours of pop art. Everyone in the group agreed that this idea would stand out and would be very different from what most groups would be producing. We all knew that it was a risk, people were either going to love the idea or hate it, but we decided to move forward with it anyway.
